Stockholm is served by four airports:
Arlanda International Airport is about 42 km north of Stockholm and is the primary gateway to Stockholm and Sweden. Some 70 airlines serve non‐stop routes to 140 international destinations. There are many connecting flights between for example London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Munich to Stockholm, giving very good access. This is also the situation for connections in the USA via Chicago, Los Angeles and New York, and connections to Asia (Shanghai, Hong Kong, Osaka) via Helsinki.
Arlanda Express is a high-speed non-stop train between Arlanda Airport and Stockholm Central Station. Arlanda Express departs every 15 minutes for most of the day and is the fastest way into town from Arlanda Airport. It only takes 20 minutes. At the airport, you can buy tickets at Arlanda Visitor Centre in Terminal 5 and LFV's other ticket counters, or at yellow ticket vending machines. Price: Adult (above 25 years) one way 260 SEK, return ticket 490 SEK. Youth tickets (18-25 years), 130 SEK one way. It is also possible to book your journey at the Arlanda Express website. You do not have to keep track of your ticket because you travel on your credit card, which you present to the onboard train attendant.
Taxis are available from outside the arrivals hall. The journey takes about 30 minutes to central Stockholm depending on traffic. Make sure to ask for a fixed price fare before starting your travel. The fixed price taxi fare to destinations in Stockholm city is on average 520 SEK. Taxis accept most major credit cards. More information about Arlanda airport taxi service can be found here.
The airport coaches depart at least every ten minutes during peak traffic. You board the bus outside each terminal at bus stop 11. The journey to Stockholm City takes about 45 minutes. One way tickets cost about 99 SEK (youth 16-25 years, 89 SEK). They can be purchased in self-service machines in the terminals or at the bus stops, or by credit card onboard the bus. It is also possible to buy E-tickets via the Flygbussarna website.
Stockholm local traffic (SL) commuter trains to Stockholm depart every 30 minutes from Arlanda Central Station in SkyCity, located between Terminals 4 and 5. Total travel time between Arlanda Airport and Stockholm Central Station is 38 minutes. Tickets can be purchased at the normal SL sales points and at Arlanda Central station. Keep in mind that you must pay an access fee when you get off the train at Arlanda Central station. If the fee has not been added to your ticket, it is paid at the ticket gate in SkyCity. Approximate price 125 SEK including access fee. Note that the SL train ticket can also be used for further travel with local transport in Stockholm city within one hour. Stockholm Bromma airport is located 9 km west of Stockholm Central Station. The airport shuttle bus (Flygbussarna) runs between Bromma airport and Stockholm city bus terminal, next to the central station. The timetable runs to connect with flight arrivals and departures. One way ticket costs approximately 79 SEK. The journey time to Stockholm city is about 20 minutes depending on traffic. You buy your ticket from the ticket-vending machines or on-line on the Flygbussarna website.
Stockholm Skavsta airport is located 110 km south of Stockholm Central Station. The airport shuttle bus (Flygbussarna) runs between Skavsta Airport and Stockholm Central Station about 30 minutes after every flight arrival. The bus waits for delayed flights. Timetable online at the Flygbussarna website. The journey to Stockholm city is about 80 minutes and one way tickets costs about 99 SEK. You buy your ticket from the ticket-vending machines or on-line on the Flygbussarna website.
Västerås Airport is 100 km northwest of Stockholm. The airport shuttle bus (Flygbussarna) runs between Västerås Airport and the Stockholm City terminal. Timetable can be found online at Flygbussarna website. One way tickets cost about 99 SEK.
The Stockholm central station, "Centralen", is where long-distance and commuter trains, underground trains, buses and taxis connect. This is also where the airport transfer buses will drop you off. From here you can easily access the KTH main campus, the Stockholm City Hall or your hotels. KTH main campus is just 6 minutes away from Stockholm central station by Metro, "tunnelbana". Take the red line travelling in the direction of "Mörby Centrum" and get off at the stop "Tekniska Högskolan", and go to the exit labelled KTH. The journey takes 6 minutes and the trains run at least every 15 minutes, and every 5 minutes during peak hours. For further information, see SL's website.
A taxi in Stockholm costs around 150 to 200 SEK within the city center. Please note that taxi fares in Sweden are not regulated, which means that prices can vary significantly between companies. With this in mind, we recommend that you use the services of well-known companies like:
Downtown Stockholm offers most of its sites (including KTH) within walking distance. KTH is a 15-20 minute walk from downtown Stockholm. The buildings on the streets of Stockholm are numbered with reference to the Royal Castle – beginning with lowest numbers closest to the direction of the castle.
